Specialist – Otolaryngology

Job Description

Practices clinical Otorhinolaryngology, providing specialized, routine and emergency diagnostic and therapeutic care to all eligible patients.  Participates in the planning and implementation of integral preventative-curative medical care programs. Clinician functions individually, and as a member of the ENT department, providing the full range of diagnostic care for all disorders of the ears, nose, throat and head and neck regions, as appropriate, with medical treatment and surgical intervention being the active modalities of care.  Pathology of these areas, evaluation and treatment, includes but is not limited to, congenital, developmental, infectious or inflammatory, neoplastic, and traumatic presentations. Standards of care are in accord with those established by NMCSH, Abu Dhabi, which have been designed to meet the requirements of the JCIA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional duties as an Otorhinolaryngologist, including various ENT and Head & Neck surgeries.
  • Provide consultations to other physicians when problems fall within the field of ear, nose, throat, head, and neck surgery, including diagnosis and treatment if the patient’s primary problem is in this field.
  • Complete medical records promptly, indicating diagnosis, treatment, and future courses of action, in accordance with established requirements.
  • Participate in group conferences requiring the specialty’s viewpoint on difficult medical cases.
  • Collaborate with departmental personnel in planning programs integrating curative and preventive aspects of total patient care.
  • Responsible for the operation of approved curative-preventive programs relevant to the specialty.
  • Respond daily to questions regarding irregular work and problems, including handling technical, safety, and accident issues.
  • Monitor the work of assigned staff in the Otorhinolaryngology Service for quality, quantity, and accuracy, demonstrating procedures or recommending additional training as required.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service activities as requested.
  • Contact the Head of Department for clarification or to keep them informed of unusual situations, problems encountered, and actions taken.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and administrative matters of a confidential nature.
  • Demonstrate dependability in fulfilling the commitments and obligations of the position.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved medical school, plus one year of internship and three years of residency.
  • Certification by the American Board of Otorhinolaryngology or membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of three years’ practice as an Otorhinolaryngologist since certification as a licensed specialist.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English; knowledge of Arabic is desirable but not essential.
  • Highly skilled in the field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures, particularly regarding the obligation to maintain confidentiality of work.
  • Personality that inspires confidence and trust in patients.
  • Adherence to the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
  • Current licensure in the country of origin and a valid DOH license to practice as a consultant in ENT in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients, and families.
